Remembering the popular President

President of India (2002-2007)
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India (2002-2007)

Today, Mr Pranab Mukherjee was sworn in as the 13th President of India. Unlike in the US, the President of India is elected by the members of the Parliament, and the President, for the citizen of the country, is not more than a mere constitutional ornament.

However, in the year 2002, India found a very deserving President, in Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam – a scientist, and an administrator.

My personal concern, at the time, was how he would survive the dirty politics, as his nomination for the post of  President was itself a matter of controversy and involved dirty politics. But he was quick to end all concerns about that, and impressed the world with his unique solutions for common problems facing a developing country like India.

He might have served India as President for just one term, but he ruled the hearts of people the world over, with his efforts for making India a developing nation. We all remember him for his achievements as a President, his love for children and his simplicity.

Ask any one, who is the most popular President of India post-Independence? The answer will be a unanimous “Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam”.

He is a role model for the young generation and was the true “RASHTRAPATI OF INDIA”.

Here, I’m posting a link to an article from The Hindu, and would ask every one to take some time off to read it.
